Abraxas' oil painting course "Secrets of the Masters" will be held again in March of 2018. The course will run for one full week Monday through Friday followed by 8 weekend classes running every other weekend through mid June. (Exact dates have not been determined but the hours will be 10 am-5 pm with a lunch break). Students will learn the color and composition secrets used by the master realist and impressionist painters, along with the skills required to produce oil paintings at a professional level. Students will use the finest materials available; Old Holland oil paint and Belgian linen. The course will include a trip to the National Gallery of Art in order to intimately observe how the masters applied the skills learned in class. Anyone interested should e-mail Abraxas. No prior painting experience is necessary. Course fee is $4,500 and includes all the professional grade painting materials you will need to continue creating masterpieces after completing the class!
Sketching Level 1 (2 day course) 9a.m. - 12p.m. Saturday & Sunday.
Learn to accurately sketch what you see! The primary focus will be on learning to discern tonal values and accurately reproducing proportions while sketching from life. Learn how light and shadow shape a scene. No "talent" required - the formula Abraxas presents removes the mystery of producing realistic art.
Course fee $150, materials cost an additional $20.
Sketching Level 1 extended (4 day course) 9a.m.-12p.m. Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri.
This course contains all information covered in the Level 1 course as well as a deeper exploration of light and shadow. Students will learn to add depth to their works by gaining an understanding of perspective. Students can take this course as a follow up to the Level 1 course (repetition is a great teacher) or as their first class.
Course fee $300, materials cost an additional $20.
Sketching Level 2 (2 days) 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Saturday & Sunday
Students have asked for a class that expands beyond the intro classes... Visual demonstrations will help deepen your understanding of how lighting affects your subjects and ultimately impacts your art. Specific exercises will be incorporated in order to more fully understand how to sketch certain subjects such as clouds, water, reflections, and other subjects the participants are interested in. Learn how to make your art come alive! Students must have completed the Level 1 or Level 1 extended class to attend the Level 2 class.
Course fee $150, materials are those used in Level 1 classes.
Private Sketching Lessons
Anyone interested in learning specific techniques or those who want a more one on one experience should consider private lessons. The rate is $75 for the first hour and $35 per consecutive hour. Contact Abraxas to make arrangements.
Observation is a foundational skill required of the visual artist and Abraxas teaches how to hone that ability through sketching. Learning to discern the subtle variations of tone in a scene and transfer that data to a two dimensional surface is essential to the creation of representational art. Whether creating a quick study to test a concept, laying down the outline of a painting, or executing a detailed graphite sketch, drawing that which is seen or imagined can be critical to the success of a project.
Abraxas' proven method enables even those who "can't draw a stick figure" to accurately draw any subject they desire... Experience the pride of signing a work of art you never thought you could create!
Check out the New Renaissance Academy, Abraxas attended Libby Berry's 6 week "Fundamentals of Masterpiece Painting" course immediately after graduating high school in 1993 and has been earning a living as a professional artist ever since!
